Premarital Counseling
Many churches and pastors do not just recommend premarital counseling, they require it. Why? The divorce rate in the church is too high. The pain of a broken marriage is horrendous and the cost of conflicted relationships is immense.
As we counsel married couples with communication and conflict resolution problems, we see a multitude of issues: financial stress, parenting problems, sexual dysfunction and extended family struggles.
What do these couples have in common? They often received no premarital counseling. Many married couples we see in counseling express regret that they did not receive counseling in preparation for marriage. Premarital counseling is for anyone getting married, regardless of age and number of times married. Wellspring's premarital counseling program consists of the following:
- Initial Interview to meet counselor and receive all materials
- 6 counseling sessions lasting 2 hours each
- Free 60 minute follow-up session, 3-6 months following the wedding
- A Premarital Counseling workbook for each of you
- Two copies of Strengthening Your Marriage by Wayne Mack (P&R Publishing, 1977)
- PREPARE/ENRICH assessment, which provides information about relationship strengths and areas for growth. (see www.lifeinnovations.com)

- The role of the husband and wife
- Communication
- Conflict resolution
- Financial unity
- The sexual relationship
- Parenting
- Relationships with friends and family
When further counseling is necessary to deal with personal issues or deeper relationship problems, this can be arranged with your counselor.
The Premarital Counseling package has a standard cost of $700. Many churches pay some or all of the cost of premarital counseling.
